The perks of being a wall flower

Opening Architectour Plan B 2013

Exhibitions. People wandering around the different art works, looking, tilting their heads slightly, different expressions crossing their faces, whispering something to their companion, a laugh, a frown, an understanding nod or a roll of the eyes.

I’m usually not much of a wall flower, but it can be a lot of fun to just watch and observe. For example during an exhibition. Especially if it’s my work on display.

I stationed myself with a large glass of wine at the back wall. Just far enough to be able to see people’s expressions but not to hear them talking. I’m not that brave.

So it begun:  People wandering around my works, looking,  looking at the back, then the front again, tilting their heads slightly, different expressions crossing their faces, whispering something to their companion, etc. But what I didn’t expect were the camera’s. Everybody taking pictures. I don’t know if you have any experience with this, but I assume this was a good sign?

By the time my glass was half empty, I went a bit closer to one of my pieces, trying to eavesdrop on the visitors (after I saw the understanding nod). They were discussing how I managed to get my porcelain stairs so thin.  I smiled and went back to socialize at the bar. Time to retreat and leave with a good feeling that before someone started laughing or frowning.
