Time to add some drama – and chocolate sauce! Inspired by the dramatic Baroque grand staircases, Trappe Blanche visualizes the staircase as status symbol.

Trappe Blanche is the second piece of my series ‘Getrapt‘. Starting from the staircase as architectural element, I interpret 4 different roles of a staircase (functional, religious, aesthetic and as status symbol), using the same white porcelain staircase.
Trappe Blanche goes far beyond the stairs as functional object, overdrawing the dramatic, dazzling and esthetic role of a staircase as a showcase: playing with different white porcelain staircases leading to different levels, contrasting the white porcelain with black glass and glaze.
And when we say drama, we (speaking as a woman) say chocolate. Hence the black glaze that oozes from the stairs like melted chocolate.
And yes, there is also a bit of Escher involved.
